About Epic

Meet the people behind Epic.

For Matt and Lancy, a landscape is more than something to look at. It is where people gather, unwind and enjoy everyday life. Epic exists to shape those spaces around the people who will live in them — and to make the journey feel personal, considered and clear from the first ideas to the finished landscape.

The story behind Epic.

Principal Landscape Designer

Matt Giffney

Matt’s path into landscape design began with his own family home. During a knock-down rebuild, the landscaping moved into construction without a considered design for how the family wanted to live. The finished space fell well short, leaving Matt to rework what had already been built.

What began as frustration became a creative turning point. Matt immersed himself in landscape design, used technology to explore what the space could become and reimagined the garden around the way his family wanted to live. In the process, he discovered a deep love of outdoor spaces and what thoughtful design can make people feel — how a garden can tell a story, draw people outside, create moments of connection and change the experience of home.

That passion drew naturally on more than 13 years in software development, where user-centred thinking and technology were central to his work. Matt went on to complete a Diploma in Landscape Design, founded Epic and became a member of the Landscape Design Institute.

Today, he combines creative landscape design, visualisation and technical documentation to help clients see what is possible, understand the thinking behind the design and have it carried through as intended. It is the clarity he wishes his own family had before time and money were committed on site.

Operations Manager

Lancy Giffney

After more than 15 years working across strategy, operations, change and transformation, Lancy chose to leave large financial institutions and join Epic. She had led complex programs, built operating models and improved how teams worked — but often felt far removed from the people ultimately affected by the work.

Epic offered something more personal: the chance to work closely with clients, see ideas become something tangible and combine her love of horticulture and plants with work where the impact is visible.

As Operations Manager, Lancy brings human-centred design and continuous improvement to the experience around the landscape design. She focuses on clear communication, smooth-running projects and systems that make it easier for clients to make decisions and enjoy the journey.
